Why do we use the size of Vans we do? Our vans have front wheel drive. This simply means there is no drive shaft running from the front of the van to the rear wheels. This allows the floor area inside the van to be lower allowing more head room for the horses and gives a very low ramp height. The low floor area also provides a very low centre of gravity making transportation safer and more comfortable for the horses. Can our vehicles be driven on a standard licence? Yes: Anyone with a standard driving licence can drive the vehicles. Do our vehicles need a special MOT test? No: they only requires Class 7 van MOT certificate, it does not need the advanced test associated with larger transporters. What size horses can our conversions carry? We recommend any horse up to 17 hands, however the weight restrictions on a fully laden box carrying two 16.2 hand horses may come into play. The free working weight left once the conversion has been completed is approx. 1150 kilo’s. Is the floor strong enough? Yes: The original steel floor of our vehicles is covered with an additional layer of 18mm marine ply and secured to the floor. The horse compartment is then coated in a 10mm layer of rubberised matting which extends 1m up the side walls. This also provides a water membrane to the floor. Is the driver/passenger bulk head reinforced? Yes: If the original van does not have a steel bulkhead we will fit one depending on whether one is required. We then reinforce it with another sheet of 18mm Marine ply and finally the soft 10mm rubber matting. Do I have to bring the horsebox back to you for servicing? No: The basic mechanicals of our horseboxes remain unaltered from the original vans they are built on, which means that any garage or dealer with the required tools can service them. We also have our own servicing facilities should you prefer to bring the horsebox back to us. |
